Bill Johnson (October-07-2019) Sermon: Baptized with Holy Spirit and Fire (Matthew 3:11). Jesus asked His cousin John the Baptist to baptize Him.
But John’s baptism was for repentance and Jesus never sinned.
John replied by saying he needed to be baptized by Jesus. So, why was Jesus baptized by John? Because He received power when, “while He prayed, the heaven was opened. The Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” (Luke 3:21-22) Great teaching from Bill about the parallel aspects of "open heave" the baptism of Jesus and when the veil was torn when Jesus died on the cross. In both cases there was a release of power from heaven fulfilling the prayer in Isaiah 64:1 for God to “rend the heavens and come down.” The Spirit of God is also upon us because we too live under an open heaven – believe it and put a demand on that anointing.
