Charles Stanley Daily Devotional (July 12, 2025) Defeating Discouragement.

In impossible situations, God can move in unimaginable ways.

Nehemiah 2:1-8

Discouragement can rob us of peace, joy, and contentment. But here’s great news if you feel disheartened: You aren’t stuck!

Let’s look at the life of Nehemiah. He had every reason to feel defeated, because his people were in trouble. After receiving news that the wall around the holy city of Jerusalem had been destroyed, this man of God acknowledged profound disappointment and grieved. Yet, even though pain flooded his soul, he didn’t allow himself to stay in that low place. Instead, he cried out to the Lord.

Since the king’s reaction was unpredictable and potentially harsh, Nehemiah prayed for success and a compassionate response. The Lord answered with amazing power, prompting the king to notice his servant’s sad countenance and to ask what he could do to help. This miracle led to a rebuilt wall and the redemption of God’s people.

The Lord can take any impossible situation and move in ways mightier than you can imagine (Ephesians 3:20 - Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us). Do you live in eager expectation of what God will do, or have you chosen to linger in despair? Like Nehemiah, turn your disappointment into a petition for the Lord’s help. He can restore your hope and prevent negative emotions from gaining a foothold in your spirit.

Please pray for my children, 1 of my sons is addicted to narcotic drugs and smoking weed, he is 43 yes old ,has no job and had to move in with my husband and I in our small apartment, it was supposed to be for only a couple of weeks but it's been year and he doesn't take any initiative to help himself, he is very negative in thoughts and words, another son is addicted to smoking weed but is now reading the Bible and going to church trying to learn and get direction and guidance from God , I am praying for my whole family, I thank God for everything he has blessed me with and I am trusting him to to heal them of these addictions and and for encouragement , confidence and a positive outlook in their lives. I , myself haven't been the best example of a Mom but I have been working on on it and I believe God is at work in me and giving me the strength to move forward and accept his forgiveness of my sins , my husband is a narcissist and speaks negative about everything which causes me to be on the defense of what I believe, I have learned to stay quiet and let God handle this situation please pray for my other 2 children to stay in their God guided lives their belief and trust in God. Thank you for your help and time. I enjoy reading and listening to Pastor Charles Stanley scripture and sermons., his sharing of his knowledge of God's word fills me with hope.
