Daily Devotional (September-13-2023) GENUINE WORSHIPPERS
Scripture Reference: Isaiah 29:13 - These people come near to me with their mouth and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me
God wants true worshippers. Jesus makes this clear in John 4:23: “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” Unfortunately, there are many false worshippers in our churches. God says of them: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” These are the kind of people Jesus calls hypocrites because they are fake worshippers. Genuine people of God sincerely love God and are wholeheartedly devoted to him. They obey the Lord and worship him honestly and sincerely. They hate hypocrisy. On the contrary, fake Christians just go through the motions of religious worship and live their daily lives like the devil’s children—lying, cheating, stealing, defrauding, deceiving, giving, or receiving bribes. In church, they sing praises and worship songs and sometimes dance enthusiastically. But God says this is just an outward show of piety; their hearts are far from him. There is no fear of God in their hearts. So, there is no real commitment to living a life worthy of God, nor is there any genuine desire to please God by glorifying him. They are disobedient by ignoring God’s will as revealed in his word. Are you a true worshipper or a fake one?
