Daily Devotional (November-22-2023) HONOR.

Scripture Reference: Mark 6:1-4 “And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.”

Honor is discerning value, amplifying and celebrating it. We must understand first and foremost, that the Holy Ghost in a believer is what makes that believer valuable, and therefore deserving of honor. The Holy Ghost in us is the reason we are anointed. He is the reason we are God's anointed. So, all believers are God's anointed. This is important to understand. We honor each other because we recognize that we are valuable because we have the Holy Ghost.

It's true that you cannot receive from whoever you don't honor, but don't honor only because of what you want to receive. Honor because the word of God said to honor. Let your honor be devoid of eye service (See Matthew 23:23-33, Luke 18:9-14). Let it be genuine. Let's examine Mark 6:1-4. Jesus, in His usual fashion of going from city to city, had visited his hometown. Upon getting there, He began to teach, and left the people amazed and in awe per usual. Notice something: They received His teachings and were genuinely in awe, until familiarity crept in.

Rather than recognizing Him as Rabbi, they trivialized Him and said 'Is this not the son of Joseph and Mary?' Due to their lack of honor, they did not realize when the son of the carpenter whom they knew from the neighborhood had become the son of God. They did not discern that the Jesus whom they knew as a boy was Rabbi and Lord, deserving of honor and reverence. The son of Joseph and Mary was functioning in His office as the son of God, and they could not discern. Sadly, sometimes we make this mistake. We make the mistake of failing to honor because of familiarity. Discern the graces upon the lives of those in your circle and treat them accordingly. You must learn to draw the line. You must learn to discern when random conversations become prophetic utterances. You must discern the instructions given by the Spirit even in jokes. Learn to honor. Don't let familiarity rob you.

AFFIRMATION: I affirm that I honor genuinely! I do not practice eye service, and my honor is devoid of hypocrisy. I do not let familiarity blind me, and I discern the graces upon the lives of those around me.l am wise, and it shows. Glory!
