Jack Hibbs - Weekly Devotional: IT’S NEVER TOO LATE

Psalm 143:5 - “I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.”

We are never too old to learn. Socrates was an old man when he began to play musical instruments. Roman historian Cato was 80 when he embarked on studying the Greek language, and Plutarch learned Latin in his upper 60s. Geoffrey Chaucer started The Canterbury Tales at age 45 and finished at 61. Michelangelo worked till the day of his death. At 90, he painted himself as an old man with an hourglass and the inscription, “Ancora imparo,” meaning, “I am still learning.”

In my later years, the Lord has led me to a new altar of worship. It is one of remembering the past through the lens of thanksgiving. A thanksgiving for pulling me through the tough times as a child when I thought that my world would surely end. Thanksgiving for saving me from certain destruction during my teen years.

It is never too late to come to the altar of the Lord with thankful remembrance.

I choose now to look back, not focusing on what might have been, but on what my God has done to preserve me, keep me, and give me life over the years.

Perhaps you have viewed your earlier years with little regard for God’s gracious hand in your life. I challenge you to focus your thoughts upon the wonderful works He has done throughout the years. If you will muse upon His greatness and meditate on His unfailing love, I am confident you will learn of a deeper place of worship, and a new altar will arise.
