Genesis 1:1 - “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
Although the first verse of the Bible is one of the most famous, it is a sticking point for many. But I have to wonder why?
DESIGNER REQUIRED
Some argue that the existence of a Creator God is unbelievable, but common sense dictates otherwise. Is it a stretch to believe that a master craftsman would be responsible for the building of a house, or that an engineer would be necessary for designing an automobile? If a landscape architect chooses trees to complement his project, then why not a Designer who chooses to reveal Himself through His design? Why not God?
The universe is constantly calling for us to discover its hidden treasures.
Whether I look up or look in, I see a creation so complex, so ordered, so precise
that I stand in awe.
Try to name one part of creation that you can reasonably explain and understand without the concept of God – you cannot. The modern-day scientific community wrestles with this daily. It enlarges its databases with greater information technologies, yet the evidence of God’s creative power stands even taller with each new discovery.
CREATOR AND SAVIOR
Perhaps the greater miracle is not that God created, but that the same God stepped into our time and space, as a man (John 1:14), to reveal His great love for you and me. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
If Genesis 1:1 challenges the limits of what you will believe, I exhort you to look intently at the life of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, as found in His Word. It is there that all things begin to make sense.
