Jentezen Franklin Daily Devotional (January 16, 2025) The Power of Prayer.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul…” Psalms 23:1-3

From the beginning of the book of Genesis, prayer and communion with God has been part of man’s ultimate purpose. Many of us are not as awakened to our assignment as we should be. Genesis 3:8 said, “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day…” Here we get a glimpse that God had a pattern or a habit of walking down to commune with Adam and Eve each day. It is interesting that God was walking. Our relationship with God is about daily walking with Him. It is not a sprint to get closer to Him. It is a slow and steady walk. It’s daily praying, reading the Word, and seeking Him.

The beautiful thing about prayer is that we don’t have to climb the heights to get to a Heavenly place to commune with Him. God comes down to where we live. The fact that God was coming in “the cool of the day” implies that the place of prayer is a refreshing place. It is a retreat that we can go to in order to get away from the heat of the pressures of life. There in the place of prayer God will ease your burdens, lift your worries, and release you from fear. He will fill you with confidence, peace, and courage.

Do you ever wonder what Adam and Eve talked to God about? They had no worries, no lack of anything, no problems, and no children. There was no sickness, financial needs, or neighbors to deal with. Prayer in its original form had nothing to do with needs or troubles. Prayer in its infancy was more about connecting with God than anything else. The purest motive of prayer is just “I want to be with you, God.”
