Joel Osteen Ministries

Joel Osteen is a preacher who gives inspiration!

And that’s true, he is positive, his sermons are positive, his ministry is positive. The parishioners of his church are very successful people, as a result! How does he inspire millions of people around the world? Let's find out!

Joel Austen began preaching in 1999, but his ministry began long before: in 1982, Osteen, left his studies, returned from Houston and invited his father to create a television ministry in LakeWood Church. He became the leader and inspirer of this ministry.

Father preached, the son made video reports that everyone would like. Joel helped his father in organizing the ministry:

  • he prepared his father for the scene;
  • picked up suit and tie;
  • worked with lighting and video equipment in the hall, for best results.

Some details

He became the best assistant for his father, but throughout this time he did not preach - not one word from the scene - it's just impossible to believe now! The person who is considered as the most popular preacher in the world never preached until 1999! It's an incredible fact for me. Joel Osteen explains this: "I was very shy, and did not imagine myself as a preacher on this scene. I was completely satisfied with my work. " But John Osteen (Joel's father) was very persistent, he asked his son to start preaching again and again, but the son always politely refused. But once Joel agreed to his father’s persuasions. On the birthday of John, they talked on the phone and the father once again invited his son to preach. He again refused, and after the conversation, he felt something unusual in his chest and heard a voice: "Joel - you should do it." After that he called his father and announced his decision. The family was amazed, and Joel, as he said, had the worst 7 days in his life. He decided to try once to convince his father and himself that it was not his occupation. But it did not work out that way.

A few days later, the father went to the hospital and the first preaching of his son, with pride and tears in his eyes, he heard on the phone. In a few days more he passed away. Joel experienced a great shock, but he felt that he must go on stage and continue his father's ministry. And he did it.

Joel Osteen's first sermons were similar in style to his father's sermon, but after a while he decided that his sermons should become as accessible and understandable to everyone as possible. He wanted his preaching not to be abstruse, perhaps that's why you can’t see lots of biblical characters in them, but there is many simple theses.

So, in the beginning of 1999, Osteen became the chief pastor of the LakeWood church. At that moment, the church had about 6,000 parishioners, but due to the simplicity and positive attitude of Joel's sermons, the number of parishioners increased to over 40,000. And they decided to purchase a new spacious room for service. The new building for the church was Compaq Center.

Now his ministry gathers up to 30,000 people every week in the church and hundreds of thousands behind TV screens around the world. Just imagine: hundreds of thousands of spectators!

But as Joel Osteen's popularity grew, so did criticism about him. Many modern preachers criticize Osteen for the ministry in which well-being is placed first. Also Joel deliberately does not use such words as sin, devil, hell while he preaches. And as if in contrast to this often sound the theme of prosperity, both financial and family in his sermons. The preacher himself comments on the criticism as follows: "I almost never see or hear criticism, I do not read blogs and comments. Everyone I talk to, say that my sermons changed their lives. It is very important for me!"

Joel says that while preaching about prosperity he does not mean money as such, prosperity. In his understanding success is in all endeavors: in work, family, in the upbringing of children and in many other things. A characteristic feature of his services is the fact that he does not call for donating any finances to the church or to him directly. He is not a paid pastor in the church, the main source of earnings is royalties from the sales of his books. Joel Osteen, not just the world-famous preacher, he is also the author of several bestsellers. They inspire people no less sermons, that’s why their sales are very large.

From all the above, you could conclude that the main parishioners of the Church of Osteen are very rich people, but this is not so: you can see very influential people, members of the government in very expensive suits and ordinary people in trampled shoes on his services. This is explained by the availability and simplicity of the ministry and preaching of the pastor.

As we wrote, Joel Osteen's style is simplicity and accessibility for all, a minimum of criticism and a positive message in the life of the listener.

Joel Osteen (June-05-2023) Daily Devotional: Boldness.

Today's Scripture: The righteous are as bold as a lion. Proverbs 28:1, NIV

Today's Word: when Nehemiah heard that the walls of Jerusalem were still torn down, he was working as the cupbearer for the king of Persia. He was living a thousand miles from Jerusalem. He had no resources and wasn’t a builder. He was normally quiet, reserved, and never made any waves, but he suddenly had this boldness, this passion to do something that he had never done. He had the courage to ask the king to authorize him to go and rebuild the walls as well as supply the timbers to do it, and the king did. God gave Nehemiah the strength, ability, and favor to complete those walls in just fifty-two days.

Don’t discount your future based on where you’re at today. Don’t think you’ll never do anything great. There are times when God gives you a dream and catapults you ahead. Suddenly you’ll have courage and boldness, suddenly you’ll have favor, suddenly the door will open, suddenly people are going to go out of their way to help you, and you’re going to accomplish what you never imagined was possible.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that I can come boldly before You, knowing that as Your child, as one of the righteous, this is my rightful place. Thank You that I don’t have to earn Your favor or be good enough to come into Your presence. I am coming to pray bold prayers and to dream bold dreams. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (June-02-2023) Daily Devotional: Weights - Today's Inspiration Word.

Today's Scripture: Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you. Psalm 55:22, AMPC

Today's Word: how many weights are you carrying around today? Think about it. Perhaps it’s the weight of worry, the weight of what you don’t understand, or the weight of how you’re going to make it through a tough season. There’s something you have to do. God is not going to take the burden away. You have to release the worry, release the frustration, release having to figure it out. Come back to a place of peace.

That difficulty you’re facing, that trouble that’s weighing you down, is not going to stop you. The trouble is transportation. Don’t fight everything and live worried, saying, “Why did this happen?” God knows what He’s doing. He has you in the palms of His hands. He may not work it out the way you had planned, but where He’s taking you is better than you’ve imagined. You have to be committed to trust Him and trust His ways. When you do, the weights will lift off you.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that You know all the weights I am carrying. Thank You that I can come to You and cast all the burdens of heaviness, worry, regrets, and feelings of frustrations upon You. I will rest in Your love and mercy and forgiveness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (June-01-2023) Daily Devotional: Validation.

Today's Scripture: The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here.” Luke 4:9, NIV

Today's Word: the enemy wanted Jesus to show how powerful He really was, to impress the people at the temple. But Jesus wouldn’t use His power for the wrong motives, just to bring attention to Himself. Before He was crucified, He said, “I could have called ten thousand angels to save Me, but I’m not living to prove who I am. I’m living to fulfill My purpose.” When your motives are right, and you need favor, you need a breakthrough, God will step in and make things happen that you couldn’t make happen.

One thing that Jesus was showing us is that you don’t need people’s validation. You may have the power or talent or funds to prove something, to impress, or to get even, but you realize it’s a distraction from your purpose. You have to be determined. “I am not going to give in to the temptation to prove, to compete, to outperform, to show people that I’m strong enough, smart enough, or talented enough. I have nothing to prove because I am a child of God.”

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that You have given me everything I need to fulfill my purpose. Thank You that I am enough because You made me just as I am, and I have Your approval. I believe and declare that I am talented enough, I am smart enough, and I am strong enough. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (May-31-2023) Daily Devotional: Broken the Enemy’s Teeth.

Today's Scripture: The lions may roar and growl, yet the teeth of the great lions are broken. Job 4:10, NIV

Today's Word: lions are very territorial. One reason they roar is to invoke fear, to intimidate and keep other animals off their territory. The same principle is true with our enemy, who “prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” When you start to take new ground, when you go after your healing, your freedom, or your abundance, the enemy thinks that’s his territory, so you’ll hear the roar louder than ever. He’s hoping to intimidate you, to where you turn back and don’t go after what God put in your heart. How many people hear the roar and give up on their dream, quit believing for their healing, or think they can never come out of debt? Have a new perspective. The roar is a sign that you’re moving toward what God promised. You wouldn’t hear the roar if you weren’t about to see favor and influence as you’ve never seen. You have to get in agreement with God and not the fear and doubt. Remember that He’s broken the teeth of the lion.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You for this word that You have broken the enemy’s teeth on the cross and rendered the enemy powerless. Thank You that Jesus’ blood is more powerful than any of the devil’s lies. I’m going to stay in peace knowing that nothing can keep me from the awesome future You have for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (May-30-2023) Daily Devotional: Victory Starts in Your Thinking. Today's Inspiration Word

Today's Scripture: “Every woman will ask for jewels, silver, gold, and the finest of clothes from her Egyptian master’s wife and neighbors. You will clothe your sons and daughters with the best of Egypt!” Exodus 3:22, TLB

Today's Word: after 430 years of Israelite slavery in Egypt, you can imagine how they had become comfortable being victims. It’s all they’d known, generation after generation. When God delivered the Israelites, He caused their oppressors to give them gold, silver, and fine clothing as payback. But why did He tell the parents to dress their sons and daughters in the jewelry and fine clothing when they were about to go into the desert? It’s because God wanted the children to stop seeing themselves as poor, limited victims. They had to see themselves as victors to enter the Promised Land.

Victory starts in your thinking. As long as you think you’re a victim, it’s going to limit your destiny. You won’t pray bold prayers, you won’t believe for big dreams, and you won’t expect God’s favor. No matter what’s happened in your past, no matter the dysfunction, abuse, lack, or struggle, shift your thinking. See yourself differently. No more of the victim who never gets a break. Put on those new clothes, so to speak. You are a victor.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that You didn’t create me to be enslaved as a victim to anything. Thank You that You are freeing me from what I cannot free myself and dressing me in the clothing of a victor. I believe that You are restoring me to wholeness and bringing me out better than ever. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (May-29-2023) Daily Devotional: A Day to Honor

Today's Scripture: Give to everyone what you owe them...if honor, then honor. Romans 13:7, NIV

Today's Word: all throughout the Scripture, we see that God blesses an attitude of honor. In Exodus, it says that when we honor our parents, we are promised long life. In Proverbs, it says that when we pursue righteousness, we will find life, prosperity, and honor. To show honor simply means that you give respect and recognition to others with your attitude, actions, and words. As we humble ourselves and give honor, we will reap a harvest of honor in our lives in return.

Today, we recognize Memorial Day as a time when we honor all the brave men and women who have given their lives in service for this country. As we remember them, let’s honor the gift of freedom they have given us by saying thank you with our actions and choosing to love and honor others. Let’s also honor all those who are serving in our armed forces and their families and sacrificing so much today. Let’s pray for God’s peace, protection, and provision over every area of their lives.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You for this special day to honor the men and women who have given their lives to secure and keep our freedom as a nation. Thank You that You are with our soldiers and their families wherever they go. Protect and provide for them, and help them to know Your peace that passes understanding. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (May-26-2023) Daily Devotional: Possess Your Land - Today's Inspiration Word.

Today's Scripture: So Joshua said to the Israelites: “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your ancestors, has given you?” Joshua 18:3, NIV

Today's Word: God had promised to give the Israelites the land of Canaan, but they had to go in and possess the Promised Land. However, instead of taking their swords out and going in, knowing that God would give them the victory, they were afraid of the giants and fortified cities. When Joshua asked them, “How long will you wait?” he was saying that God would do His part, but they had to initiate the blessing, the favor, the victory.

Most of the time, God says to us, “I’ll give you the healing, restore your marriage, turn your child around, if you start to believe and speak My Word, which is sharper than a two-edged sword.” It’s a spiritual battle. Standing in faith and declaring His promises will part Red Seas, break addictions, defeat the sickness, and open doors you never dreamed would open. To possess your land, you have to go after what God put in your heart. You can’t be passive. You have to dream big, pray bold prayers, and expect His favor.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You for the promise that You always lead me to triumph through Jesus. Thank You that I can take Your promises and keep my faith in agreement with You by believing and declaring that You will bring them to pass. I declare that I will not be passive. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
