Joel Osteen Ministries

Joel Osteen is a preacher who gives inspiration!

And that’s true, he is positive, his sermons are positive, his ministry is positive. The parishioners of his church are very successful people, as a result! How does he inspire millions of people around the world? Let's find out!

Joel Austen began preaching in 1999, but his ministry began long before: in 1982, Osteen, left his studies, returned from Houston and invited his father to create a television ministry in LakeWood Church. He became the leader and inspirer of this ministry.

Father preached, the son made video reports that everyone would like. Joel helped his father in organizing the ministry:

  • he prepared his father for the scene;
  • picked up suit and tie;
  • worked with lighting and video equipment in the hall, for best results.

Some details

He became the best assistant for his father, but throughout this time he did not preach - not one word from the scene - it's just impossible to believe now! The person who is considered as the most popular preacher in the world never preached until 1999! It's an incredible fact for me. Joel Osteen explains this: "I was very shy, and did not imagine myself as a preacher on this scene. I was completely satisfied with my work. " But John Osteen (Joel's father) was very persistent, he asked his son to start preaching again and again, but the son always politely refused. But once Joel agreed to his father’s persuasions. On the birthday of John, they talked on the phone and the father once again invited his son to preach. He again refused, and after the conversation, he felt something unusual in his chest and heard a voice: "Joel - you should do it." After that he called his father and announced his decision. The family was amazed, and Joel, as he said, had the worst 7 days in his life. He decided to try once to convince his father and himself that it was not his occupation. But it did not work out that way.

A few days later, the father went to the hospital and the first preaching of his son, with pride and tears in his eyes, he heard on the phone. In a few days more he passed away. Joel experienced a great shock, but he felt that he must go on stage and continue his father's ministry. And he did it.

Joel Osteen's first sermons were similar in style to his father's sermon, but after a while he decided that his sermons should become as accessible and understandable to everyone as possible. He wanted his preaching not to be abstruse, perhaps that's why you can’t see lots of biblical characters in them, but there is many simple theses.

So, in the beginning of 1999, Osteen became the chief pastor of the LakeWood church. At that moment, the church had about 6,000 parishioners, but due to the simplicity and positive attitude of Joel's sermons, the number of parishioners increased to over 40,000. And they decided to purchase a new spacious room for service. The new building for the church was Compaq Center.

Now his ministry gathers up to 30,000 people every week in the church and hundreds of thousands behind TV screens around the world. Just imagine: hundreds of thousands of spectators!

But as Joel Osteen's popularity grew, so did criticism about him. Many modern preachers criticize Osteen for the ministry in which well-being is placed first. Also Joel deliberately does not use such words as sin, devil, hell while he preaches. And as if in contrast to this often sound the theme of prosperity, both financial and family in his sermons. The preacher himself comments on the criticism as follows: "I almost never see or hear criticism, I do not read blogs and comments. Everyone I talk to, say that my sermons changed their lives. It is very important for me!"

Joel says that while preaching about prosperity he does not mean money as such, prosperity. In his understanding success is in all endeavors: in work, family, in the upbringing of children and in many other things. A characteristic feature of his services is the fact that he does not call for donating any finances to the church or to him directly. He is not a paid pastor in the church, the main source of earnings is royalties from the sales of his books. Joel Osteen, not just the world-famous preacher, he is also the author of several bestsellers. They inspire people no less sermons, that’s why their sales are very large.

From all the above, you could conclude that the main parishioners of the Church of Osteen are very rich people, but this is not so: you can see very influential people, members of the government in very expensive suits and ordinary people in trampled shoes on his services. This is explained by the availability and simplicity of the ministry and preaching of the pastor.

As we wrote, Joel Osteen's style is simplicity and accessibility for all, a minimum of criticism and a positive message in the life of the listener.

Joel Osteen Daily Devotional (March 18, 2024) Healthy Prayers.

Today's Scripture: You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. - James 4:2–3, NKJV

Today's Word: in today’s Scripture, the word “amiss” means “sick, weak, miserable.” This is saying, “You won’t receive when you pray sick prayers, when you pray weak prayers.” When we pray out of selfish motives or just to make it through, that’s a sick prayer. “God, I’m so defeated. Please do something.” That prayer needs to go to Urgent Care; that prayer is on its last leg. Try a different approach; try a bold prayer. “God, there’s a lot coming against me, but I know nothing is too big for You. Thank You that the blessings You have for me are so great they will overflow to those around me.” That’s a healthy prayer. That gets God’s attention. He responds to faith-filled prayers.

Are you praying bold prayers? Are you asking God to turn situations around that look impossible? How many miracles are you missing because you’re not asking? Dare to ask, not just for your needs, but for others to be blessed through you. Ask for the big things God’s put in your heart. He’s longing to be good to you.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that You want to do great things in my life so that Your greatness will be displayed. Help me to pray bold prayers that release Your favor to open new doors and bless others. I declare that I am going to ask You for everything You have put in my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (March 17, 2024) Daily Devotional: Walk by the Spirit.

Today's Scripture: Galatians 5:16–17, NIV - So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Today's Word: Your choices are never free from the inner conflict of the flesh and the Spirit. You have to know that this is a battle that will never go away. You can be a believer who has matured for fifty years, but you will still have to deal with the flesh, the carnal nature that basically tells you to live and do whatever you feel. You don’t overcome it one time and it’s defeated. It will come back again and again. You have to get skilled at saying, “No, I’m not going to let my flesh have what it wants. I’m not going to let my guard down and give in.”

Are you winning the war within? Are you living by the Spirit, making decisions that honor God? Or are you letting the flesh win, doing whatever you feel? You need to take the flesh off the throne. Quit letting it determine your decisions and dictate how you live, respond, and handle adversity. Start walking by the Spirit, taking the high road, and doing the right thing when it’s hard.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that I can choose to be disciplined and to say no to the flesh and its desires. Thank You that every day I can take my feelings off the throne and allow Your Spirit to control my life. Help me to walk by the Spirit and do what’s right. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (March 15, 2024) Daily Devotional: Not a Lion, Like a Lion.

Today's Scripture: Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8, NIV

Today's Word: even though our enemy was defeated when Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead, the challenge is that he makes a lot of noise, going about like a roaring lion. He’s not a lion. He can’t overpower you. He can’t control your destiny. He’s like a lion, which means he’s loud. He’ll roar negative thoughts, such as, “That sickness will be the end of you. You’ll never meet the right person. You’ve made too many mistakes. There’s nothing good in your future.” Do yourself a favor: Ignore the roar. Don’t believe his lies. When those thoughts come, just give him the zero sign. Remind him, “You have no power over me. You’ve already been defeated. Because I belong to God, I will walk in victory. I will live and not die. I will prosper and succeed. I will stay in peace in the midst of the storm.” When you know that what comes against you has already been defeated, it changes your outlook. You won’t live in fear, worried about your future, or let doubt hold you back. You’ll move forward knowing that God has already taken care of anything you face. The path has already been cleared.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that when the enemy is roaring, bombarding my thoughts with doubts and fears, I can resist him, firm in the faith. Thank You that he does not have any power over me. I declare that I will not be intimidated into backing down, and I will not believe the roar. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (March 14, 2024) Daily Devotional: Right Desires.

Today's Scripture: “But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, he will not listen to you.…And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it.” Exodus 7:3–5, NIV

Today's Word: when God told Moses to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelite slaves go free, He also caused Pharoah to harden his heart to say no. God put the desire in him to be stubborn. Why? So that He would receive great glory at Pharaoh’s expense. God went on to perform great miracles so the Egyptian people knew He was the true God. It was a part of His plan so the Israelites could fulfill their purpose.

How much more will God put desires in you so you can fulfill your destiny? You don’t have to fear the future or worry about whether you will be making the right choices. Just keep honoring God. Your part is to commit your ways to Him every morning and say, “Lord, let Your will be done and not mine. I put You first place.” God’s part is to put the right desires in you that are strong enough to where you step into His will. This is how He will lead you into the best plan that He’s already laid out.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that You are the Almighty God who is working in all things for my good. Thank You that as I put You first, You are putting desires in my heart that will lead me to fulfill my purpose. I will walk in peace, knowing You are taking me down the best path for my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (March 13, 2024) Daily Devotional: Seeing Beyond.

Today's Scripture: Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” - Matthew 19:26, NLT

Today's Word: most people are limited by their logic, but logic can be a dream stealer. If you look at your life situations only from a human point of view—what you can do, your resources, your connections, your experience—you’re going to miss the greatness God put in you. The promises that God has put in your heart, what He’s whispered to you in the night, may not seem possible. All your logic says, “There’s no way. It’s too big. It’s never happened in your family. You don’t have the experience.” But that’s okay. Jesus says that just the opposite is true, that with God all things are possible.

Here’s the question: Are you going to let your human reasoning, what you can see and what’s natural, set the limits for your life? Or are you going to see beyond the logical? Are you going to believe that the all-powerful Creator of the universe, the God who flung stars into space, the God who parts Red Seas, will make a way where you don’t see a way?

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You for being the all-powerful Creator of the universe, for reigning as sovereign over my life and as the One who makes all things possible. There are things in my life that I want to see changed that seem unchangeable, but I trust You. I believe that You will make a way for it. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (March 12, 2024) Daily Devotional: Be Conformed to the Right Image.

Today's Scripture: For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son. Romans 8:29, NIV

Today's Word: the reason some people are so stressed and run-down is they feel they have to perform, pretend, and keep up with their friends and others. They have their image on the throne and do things to protect how they’re seen. But you need to take your image off the throne and put God back on the throne. If others only accept you if you perform to their standards, they’re not true friends. It’s such a freedom when you can be real, be vulnerable, and not worry about what other people think. If you’re obsessed with your image, you can’t be conformed to the image of Jesus, and you’re not going to become who you were created to be.

You don’t have to hide or pretend or worry about what people will think. The people who look like they have it all together have issues too. Everyone is dealing with something. Don’t waste another day trying to get their approval. You don’t need them to validate you. Almighty God has already approved you. Be confident in who God made you to be.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You that You predestined me to be conformed to the image of Jesus. Thank You that I can get off the treadmill of impressing and pleasing others and just live for Your approval. I’m going to live confidently and boldly be the person You created me to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joel Osteen (March 11, 2024) Daily Devotional: Bring Healing and Wholeness.

Today's Scripture: Gentle words cause life and health; griping brings discouragement. Proverbs 15:4, TLB

Today's Word: you have something that will cause your spouse to blossom, your children to bloom, your loved ones to feel more secure. It’s not your money, your hard work, or your accomplishments; it’s your kind words. They need to hear how much you love them, how much you believe in them, how great you think they are. Today there are so many voices saying harsh things, being rude and demeaning, trying to push people down. We need to be just as bold and speak our mind in a positive way. God is counting on us to be healers, to be lifters, to be encouragers.

Don’t let a day go by when you don’t say something kind to the people God put in your life. It’s not enough to just think it; your thoughts don’t nourish anyone. A blessing is not a blessing until it’s spoken. They need to hear, “I love you. I’m proud of you. You’re beautiful. You’re going to do great things.” Make it your business to nourish people’s souls, to bring healing and wholeness.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You for the people You have placed in my life and the special role You have given me in their lives. Thank You that You can take my words of encouragement and bring healing and wholeness to them. Help me to see who I can bless and lift up today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
