John Hagee (August-02-2021) Daily Devotional: Colossians 3:17 - And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
When the shepherd boy ran out to fight the giant, he called out to Goliath, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts…” (I Samuel 17:45).
David did not fight in his own strength but in the name of the Lord. Throughout Scripture, the name of our Lord carries weight, dominion, and power. There is something about that name!
In the name of Jesus, we believe and are saved. We are baptized in His name. We have life in that precious name. In His name, the disciples found boldness to preach and teach.
Even when they were beaten, imprisoned, and warned not to speak in the name of Jesus anymore, they continued to perform miracles and cast out demons in that name.
Colossians 3:17 encourages us to do everything – every word and every action – in the name of Jesus. When you open your mouth, speak in the name of Jesus – words that bring life. Do every small deed throughout the day in His name – a reflection of His love and an arrow that points back to Him.
When we operate in His name, all of His power and authority stand behind us. He is glorified. It changes us, and it changes those around us, too.
Blessing: May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you submit every word and every deed to Jesus. May you operate in His name, so all His power and authority stand behind you. May your life point others to Him so that they find life in the name of Jesus too…amen.
