When the word “apocalypse” is mentioned, visions of doomsday scenarios, mushroom clouds over cities, and end-of-days disasters come immediately to mind. The apocalypse is not the end of the world, a nuclear war or a horrific, last-days judgment. “Apocalypse” is derived from a Greek word that means “to pull back, unveil or the holy disclosure of information or knowledge.” In the book of Daniel, the hand of God pulled back the curtain of time to show Daniel what waited on the other side. This unveiling revealed Himself as the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
Sometimes, we become so focused on the notes on the page that we forget to enjoy the music. The apocalypse is not intended to create confusion or bog us down in frightening details. For those of us who belong to Jesus, we can be filled with confidence and hope. God is still on His throne in absolute control.
When the final word is uttered by the last leader on earth, God will still be in power. No government can unseat Him. No scientist can disprove Him. No judge can overrule Him. He has unveiled His plans so we can be prepared and look forward to the promised salvation through Jesus Christ, His Son.
