I will be completely honest about my understanding of the story of the Magi. Why would Persian magicians of 'wicked intent' have any interest in a Jewish Messiah? Who really were the Magi? Many Jews were still living in Babylon and Persia when Yeshua was born. Daniel and his Jewish brothers were looking out for their coming Messiah. Yeshua was already two years of age when the visitors arrived, living in a house in Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph. Daniel surely would have seen the sign of their Messiah's arrival and many Jews too, likely two years before the visitors arrived in Bethlehem . Knowing Daniel was chief among the astrologers- would he not have seen the signs in the heavens? However, I have two queries; (1) If the visitors were Jews why didn't God or an angel of God warn them not to attend Herod, and (2) why would evil Magi listen to the voice of an angel of God to return by another route to avoid Herod? Would God the Father trust magicians with His Son? These stargazers must have had some Jewish connections otherwise it makes to us or the Jews.
