TD Jakes - Sermon: What's Killing Relationships & How To Repair Them

Daily Devotion (September-14-2023) THE PRINCIPLE OF RELATIONSHIP IN PRAYER.

Scripture Reference: “I love those who love Me; and those who seek Me early and diligently will find Me.” Proverbs 8:17 (AMP)

The mode of relationship existing between the visible man and His Maker is powered by Prayer. God made man to be dependent on and not independent of Himself, hence the daily Fellowship between God and Adam in the Garden of Eden: “And they heard the Sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the Presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden” Gen. 3:8(NKJV). A relationship is so fundamental because it is the basis of entering God’s Kingdom when we accept our Lord Jesus as Saviour, and a basis for spending eternity in hell if anyone serves satan without accepting Jesus.

The Principle of Relationship as the Foundation of Prayer was modelled by our Lord Jesus who said, "When you pray, say, Our Father..." (Lk. 11:2). Addressing God as Father implies a Relationship just like Jesus has with God the Father. Most times Jesus referred to God as Father even after His Resurrection from the dead when He briefly talked with Mary and said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.” Jn. 20:17(NKJV). To address God as Father is to bring ourselves into a very Personal Relationship with He who dwells in our hearts through His Spirit. We speak to Him personally as a child does to his father. A father is responsible for and cares for his children and so we approach Him in love, knowing that He first loves us (Jn. 3:16).

Effective Prayer is based on intimacy with God because when we pray and spend quality time with Him and His Word that is made alive by the Holy Spirit, a Dimension of God is revealed to us. Through Prayer, you receive Deeper Revelations of God on the basis of His Word, a Revelation of yourself through the Eyes of God and His Word, and thereafter the Revelation of His Purpose for your life. Relationship is the First Principle of Prayer. When we capture God’s Heart, we become His Delight, leading Him to grant us access to His Resources according to the Scriptures: "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s Good Pleasure to give you the kingdom" Lk. 12:32(NKJV).

PRAYER - Father, we thank You for the privilege of being Your children and being Your Dwelling Place. We pray that our lives will be lived to bring You pleasure by relating with You continually and extending the Relationship we have with You to others for whose sins You also died in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen.

Charles Stanley (May-01-2023) Daily Devotional: Right Relationships.

Becoming a godly person is a worthy goal for every believer. We know prayer and Bible study are essential in achieving this objective, but did you know that having right relationships is also a critical element in our journey toward godliness?

Since this world is filled with people who don’t share our values, we need relationships that inspire and challenge us to become the people God wants us to be. We’d like to think that all our Christian acquaintances help us achieve this goal, but sadly, many believers interact with each other only on a trivial level.

We need friends who give wise counsel based on God’s Word. Even when their advice isn’t comfortable, it’s always beneficial. They’re not afraid to speak the truth, even if it is painful to hear. When we’ve gotten off track, they lovingly confront us and point us in the right direction. And if we encounter times of suffering, they are by our side, encouraging us as we walk through fiery trials.

What kinds of relationships do you have? Can you name someone who helped you become more like Jesus? If you don’t have anyone like this in your life, ask the Lord to provide someone. We were not created to walk alone.
