David Jeremiah (January-12-2024) Daily Devotional: What a Friend!

I cry out to the Lord with my voice; with my voice to the Lord I make my supplication. - Psalm 142:1

Recommended Reading: John 15:14-15 - You are My friends if you do whatever I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.

Those who have a best friend are blessed with a relationship of transparency and acceptance. For some, it is a sibling, for others, a non-family member. That may be what Proverbs 18:24 refers to as “a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

A friend is a person to whom you can pour out your heart, a person who will not judge you for the feelings you express. For David the psalmist that friend was God Himself. When David found himself alone and oppressed by those who opposed him, he cried out to the Lord. That is, he used his voice to tell God what he was experiencing and how he was feeling (Psalm 142). He didn’t hold back; he trusted his covenant friendship with God was strong enough to withstand his flood of words and emotions. In John 15, Jesus introduced a new relationship with His disciples: He called them His friends (John 15:14-15). Their relationship changed from Master/servant to Friend/friend. And so it is with us.

When you are lonely, discouraged, or confused, tell Jesus. He invites you as a friend to come unto Him (Matthew 11:28-30).

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! - Joseph M. Scriven

Jentezen Franklin (December-05-2023) Daily Devotional: Who Are Your True Friends?

“There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Pr 18:24 NIV

Cicero said, “Friendship improves happiness and abates misery, by the doubling of our joy and the dividing of our grief.” The fact is, it’s impossible to have more than a few close friends, because true friendship takes time, attention, and commitment. “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (v. 24 NIV). The hallmarks of real friendship include these: (1) Trust. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote: “The glory of friendship is not in the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him.” (2) Giving and receiving. Sometimes one person will be the primary giver, and sometimes the other. But true friendships are always two-sided. (3) Sharing your lives. Helen Keller said: “My friends have made the story of my life. In a thousand ways they have turned my limitations into beautiful privileges and enabled me to walk serene and happy in the shadow cast by my deprivation.” (4) Mutual enjoyment. In a true friendship, you spend time together just for the joy of it. What you do isn’t necessarily of significance. Unfortunately, the busyness of life makes us forget what a joy this can be. (5) Respecting one another. How do you build respect? By not letting obstacles or circumstances become more important than the relationship. When the pressure is on, you continue to treat one another with patience and kindness. And when the relationship is struggling, you work to preserve it.

Joseph Prince (December-01-2023) Daily Devotional: Find Friends Who Can Carry You

Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. - Mark 2:3

Sometimes it is difficult for us to have faith when we are on our own. When you have no strength and no faith, you need others to pull you through. I want to share with you a precious testimony from Audrey, a leader in my church who experienced that for herself.

In the twenty-ninth week of her pregnancy, her water broke and she was admitted to the hospital for bed rest. Friends prayed with her and her husband, encouraged them, and believed with them for the birth of a healthy baby. She and her husband partook of the holy Communion as frequently as they were able to.

In the thirtieth week, baby Jenna was born, weighing 1.5 kg (3.3 lb), thankfully with no major complications. She was able to breathe on her own and all her organs were functioning properly. She gradually progressed from a tiny baby supported by tubes and needles to tube feeding and finally to normal feeding.

Audrey’s daily commute to the hospital was exhausting, but she was thankful for kingdom friends who kept them in prayer. Many of them partook of the holy Communion on their own as they prayed for Jenna and her parents. After forty days in the hospital, Jenna was finally allowed to go home.

However, Jenna was soon back in the hospital ICU as her heart rate suddenly became critically low and later became too high. Audrey was devastated and by this time was “out of prayer and out of faith.” But church leaders and friends kept surrounding them in an environment of faith and prayer even when they kept meeting with setbacks.

During that period, Audrey shared that I preached a fresh message about the Communion in church, and after she heard it, she and her husband persevered and kept partaking of the Communion for baby Jenna until finally she was out of danger. It was an arduous journey, but Jenna went home strong and healthy. Hallelujah! Audrey shared:

As I think of how Jesus healed the paralytic based on the faith of the four friends who lowered him through the roof, I thank God we also had these “four friends.” Our friends continually prayed for Jenna and encouraged us to press in to claim God’s healing and to partake of the holy Communion.

If you have been dealing with a long, drawn-out medical condition or you are exhausted from caring for a loved one, depression can creep in as the burden gets too heavy for you. My friend, bring your cares to God, knowing He cares about you with deepest affection, and watches over you so very carefully (1 Pet. 5:7 AMP).

At the same time, I want you to know God never meant for you to function in a vacuum. His heart is for you to be planted in a local church and not forsake “the assembling of ourselves together” but to exhort and encourage one another (Heb. 10:25). The church is not perfect by any means. But we have a perfect Savior who has done a perfect work on the cross, and there is safety, healing, and provision in the house of God.

Daily Devotional (January-21-2023) Friendship of the World

James 4:1-7 - “4. 1. From whence come wars and fighting among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2. Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5. Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, the spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6. But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Why have we ask for so many things from God and yet fail to even receive an answer from God? The world has become in a way that almost everyone on it wants to fulfill his or her stupid desire. Nobody thinks of the will of God in his or her life but only thinks about the will of themselves. What do we see today, young people and all they want in their lives is money. Money is always their focus and nothing else. And they kill, steal, and cause troubles all be of their stupid desires. Why should God answer your prayer when you seek to destroy others? We have made ourselves worldly people by fornicate, steal, and kill around thinking it is normal. Beloved, why do we have to do all these ungodly things?

I am here to tell you that, you have being given a greater life than that of the life of this world. A life that Jesus Christ is your Lord. Greater than man can ever imagine and spirits will ever conquer. Today's word is saying that, the friendship of this world is enmity to God but the spirit of God gives grace and abundance of grace. Seek God and all your prayers will be answered in Jesus name.

No amount of ungodly things you do will ever prosper you like what the salvation of Jesus Christ has done in your life. Move away from the things of this world because it will only add you pain and sorrows. Do away with all your evil desires and make Jesus Christ your focus. Focusing and looking unto the throne of grace. From the throne is life and hope full of riches.

PRAYER: Father I am before your throne today in prayer and thanksgiving. According to the message of your grace, restored me, Heal me and Provide for me and grant me favor in thy sight. Separate me from this world and guide me on the perfect path. Amen
