Rick Warren Daily Devotional (May 4, 2025) There Is Nothing Too Big for God.

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20 (NLT)

God is a competent Father. He can handle any problem you give him. Nothing is beyond his ability or his resources. No request is too big or too small.

A woman once asked me, “Rick, is it really okay for me to talk to God about the small things in my life? Shouldn’t I just talk to him about the big problems I have?” I looked at her and said, “Ma’am, can you imagine any problem you would have that God would consider too big? Or a problem he would consider too small to care about? God cares about it all.”

Nothing is beyond God’s ability. He is a competent Father.

When you look at media today, you’ll see a lot of incompetent fathers. Today’s TV dad is the butt of the joke, and everybody else is in on the joke except dad. That’s the kind of father that society is promoting.

But that incompetent TV dad is nothing like your heavenly Father. The Bible teaches, “Nothing is impossible for God” (Luke 1:37 GW). I cut the word “impossible” out of my dictionary because it’s not in God’s vocabulary. Nothing is impossible for God.

It’s amazing to me what my kids expected me to fix when they were little. They thought I could know all, fix anything, and afford everything. As they grew up, they learned that their father had limited knowledge, limited energy, limited resources, limited skills—limited everything.

But your heavenly Father really can do anything. Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” (NLT).

I’m a big dreamer. I have a lot of big dreams—and I’ve seen God fulfill a lot of big dreams. But God essentially says, “I don’t care how much you dream, Rick; I can still top it. I’m bigger. I can dream bigger than you can dream.”

Yesterday’s impossibilities are today’s miracles. God specializes in the impossible! He is a competent Father.

Talk It Over

  • What difference does it make to you to know that “nothing is impossible for God”?
  • What challenge have you faced—or maybe you’re facing it right now—that you’ve doubted God can handle?
  • What can you do today to trust God with that challenge?
