Steven Furtick (July-02-2020) Motivation: Flip Your Mindset.
Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen and understand. What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.”
Then the disciples came to him and asked, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?”
Matthew 15:10-12
I challenge you to flip it this year.
It’s so easy to live with an invisible belief system that regulates your responses in situations –– and even your ideas of what is possible in your life. An unquestioned belief system is a dangerous thing.
These verses are significant because the Pharisees are worrying about the traditions of the elders, but Jesus is talking about the command of God. One is tradition; one is truth.
A lot of times we don’t know the difference. For some of us, we give more attention to our traditions than we do to God’s truth –– but we need to flip it.
I’ll give you an example: Sometimes, in my life, ways of thinking have been handed down to me, not necessarily by my parents, but by the culture I live in. And I never stop to question, “Where did this come from?”
To flip it, we need to ask ourselves: “Where did this come from? Is this really from God?”
