Daily Devotional (March 27, 2024) WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY IN TONGUES - Part 3.

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 2:11 - For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

Let's see Romans 8:26. It says, "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

The word intercession in the text transliterates to mean huperentugchano, and to intercede is to step in and help. It is to intervene. From Romans 8:26, the apparent dilemma is that we do not know what to pray for as we ought. Prayer is a means of fellowship between God and His children, but it is also how we ask. James 4:3 helps us understand that it is possible to ask amiss, meaning, we sometimes ask the wrong things in prayer, and this is because of the limitations of the mind (this is why we are asked to continually renew our minds). Now, when we pray with our understanding, we cannot go past how we think. We cannot pray better or higher than our minds can fathom.

Scripture tells us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. We cannot do or say better than the way we think, and this is why you should pray in tongues.

The limitation of the mind is why we do not know what to pray as we ought. There is how we ought to pray, and there is what we should pray, but the mind falls short of capturing that. There is what God wants you to ask for (which is His Will for you), and the way to decipher that is to pray in the language of the Spirit. When you pray in tongues, you bypass the limitations of your mind, and you pray to know what to pray. You pray in tongues to get what God will have you pray. So, the Holy Ghost does not pray for us, He helps us pray the right thing. He searches the deep things of God to reveal to us. If you already had a preconceived notion prior to prayer, say, you had your plans and motives before talking to God, praying in your understanding simply helps you voice out what you already wanted which might not be God's will for you, but when you pray in the Holy Ghost, you pray bypassing the impulses of the mind and discerning the will of God instead of yours (See Romans 8:27).

Praying in tongues places in your heart what you ought to pray for as you ought, including thanksgiving. When you cannot find the words, pray in other tongues, and even when you think you have the words, praying in other tongues helps you say the exact and precise words. Romans 8:26 says the Holy Ghost helps our weaknesses, and it is because of these weaknesses that we do not know what to pray as we ought; weaknesses such as selfishness or genuine cluelessness.

Sometimes, we genuinely do not know what to pray because we run out of ideas and 'prayer points. Praying in tongues is a prayer point in itself. It is praying to know what to pray as you ought. When you pray in other tongues, you are giving room to know the will of the Father concerning whatever, even when the answer is "no". Pray to discern God's will today. Pray in other tongues!

DECLARE THIS: As I pray in tongues today, I pray to know God's will. I pray to bring the answers in my spirit to the consciousness of my mind. I pray to know what to pray. I pray to bypass my will! Glory!

Daily Devotional (March 26, 2024) WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY IN TONGUES ( Part 2).

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 14:2-4 - For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

A sharp sense of discernment is very key in life, because more than helping you identify right from wrong, it will help you identify what seems right from what is actually right (See Proverbs 14:12). Discernment is the ability to make good judgment, and we must understand that not all things are as they seem, hence to judge accurately, you will need to train your spirit to see with the third eye of the Spirit, and this is one of the reasons we pray in tongues.

Let's see 1 Corinthians 14:2. It says, "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries." So when we pray in tongues, we speak mysteries in the Spirit. When we pray to heighten our discernment, we are praying to know what we do not know. We are praying to be able to see what is hidden to our physical sight. We are praying so that we can be more sensitive to know what we were not told. You are praying because by your logic and intellect, you cannot differentiate what is right from what is nearly right. Scripture says that there is a way that seems rightand the reason people go through that route is because to the ordinary eyes, it seems right. When we pray in tongues to heighten our discernment, we are saying the unknown (what scripture calls mysteries in the spirit) to know the unknown. In the arena of discernment, it's a game of tongues. The mind is limited, so we bypass the limitations of the mind when we pray in the language of the Spirit.

When we pray in tongues to sharpen our discernment, we become more sensitive and not just suspicious. Suspicion will make you think that something is wrong somewhere, but with discernment, you can tell even what is wrong from what seems wrong. We train our spirits to walk in the wisdom force of God that propels us to identify foolishness and abstain from it. When it comes to discernment, common sense and physical sight will not always be enough. You need to see beyond what you can physically see, and for this, you need to be sensitive to the nudges of the Spirit. A sharp sense of discernment will help you avoid pitfalls that you honestly could not have known. It will save you from investing in things that look great, but are on their way to failure. It will help you to identify the diamonds in the rough that do not look like it and most importantly, it will help you identify God's will for you per time. Sharpen your sense of discernment today. Pray in tongues! We pray in tongues to sharpen our sense of discernment.

DECLARE THIS: As I pray in tongues today, my discernment is sharpened! I train my spirit to see beyond what I see with my physical eyes. By discernment, I differentiate what is right from what looks right. Glory!

Daily Devotional (March 25, 2024) WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY IN TONGUES.

Scripture Reference: 1 Corinthians 12:1-4 - Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit

The gift of speaking in other tongues as we see from the progression of Luke 25:49 and Acts 1:4 is complementary to receiving the Holy Ghost. The believer's 'Day of Pentecost' is the day he/she received Christ. That being said, it is important to know that like all the other gifts of the Spirit, speaking in tongues is not learnt. It is the only language that we are not taught to speak, because it is sponsored by the Spirit within. There are no special qualifications required to pray in tongues, and it is not reserved for a specific few. It is for all who have received the Holy Ghost. If you have the Holy Ghost, you can and should pray in tongues. You are already filled with the Spirit, so just speak. Don't rationalize it.

Why should we pray in other tongues? Let's see 1 Corinthians 14:2-4. It says, "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church."

To edify is to oikodomeo. It is to build up or to literally construct brick upon brick. So, praying in tongues is how we build ourselves up; how we construct and how we layer strength upon strength. What do we build when we pray in other tongues? We build inner strength. Jesus said in Luke 18:1, "men ought always to pray, and not to faint". In other words, we are designed to live by prayer. People think that they cannot pray because they are tired, when in fact it is because they are not praying that they are tired. If you're fainting, it is because you're not praying. The best way to build mental fortitude and willpower is to spend quality time praying in tongues. Feed your heart with the strength of the Spirit, and not just motivation. Pray in tongues.

What do we build in prayer? We build stamina and resistance to adversity. Scripture says in Proverbs 24:10, "If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small'. Adversity is guaranteed to come, but it must meet us a hundred steps ahead. How to be unshakable by downtimes is to create a cushion effect that will prevent you from being hit hard or feeling the impact of such downtimes. The way to do that is to build resistance by praying in other tongues.

Proactive prayers will do us a lot of good. Preparing for downtimes when they come is unprofitable. We pray in tongues so that we are not lightweight and easily siftable by adversity (Luke 22:31). We pray to build standing and stamina in advance. The tool to build is provided already! Don't wait for others to edify you, practice self-edification right now. Pray in other tongues! Praying in tongues is edifying yourself.

DECLARE THIS: As I pray in tongues today, am edified! I build strength and stamina. I gain standing! I am not lightweight and I build resistance and resilience by the Spirit!

Joel Osteen (November-18-2023) Daily Devotional: Watch Your Tongue - Today's Word.

Today's Scripture: Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? Then keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. - Psalm 34:12–13, NLT

Today's Word: in today’s Scripture, we think it only means that we should never lie to other people. But it also means to not tell lies about yourself. Don’t go around saying things that contradict what God says about you. “I’m just average. I’m not good enough. I’ll never do anything great.” That’s telling lies. God didn’t create anyone average. When He breathed life into you, He put greatness inside. You have to watch your tongue if you want to see this long, prosperous, amazing life that He’s destined for you. Be careful what you say about yourself. You can’t put yourself down and rise up to who you were created to be.

No more speaking defeat, talking about how you can’t get well, can’t break the addiction, can’t start your business. Get in agreement with God. All through the day, bless yourself by saying, “I am strong. I am talented. I am healthy. I am well able.” Speak life, speak favor, speak victory, and watch God show out in your life.

Prayer for Today: “Father, thank You for creating me in Your image and breathing life and greatness into me. Thank You that my words have the power to bless my life and lift me to become what You’ve created me to be. I will watch my words and be disciplined to speak what You say about me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
