TD Jakes (May 1, 2025) Daily Devotional: The Universal Call of the Gospel.
Scripture Reference: Acts 17:22-23 - "Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: 'People of Athens, I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am proclaiming to you.'"
Beloved, let us marvel at the divine wisdom of God, who positions His servants precisely where they must be, equipped with a unique blend of heritage and citizenship, just like the Apostle Paul. Sent to the heart of philosophical and cultural exchange in Athens, Paul used the universal language of the day to proclaim the Truth of Jesus Christ. In a city curious about ideas, Paul bridged the divide, turning their unknown beliefs towards the known Savior.
We find ourselves today in a world interconnected by technology and commerce, much like the common language of Greek in Paul's time. Each of us carries a blend of cultural heritage and modern identity, and like Paul, we are called to use our unique positions to spread the gospel. Whether you are in the bustling centers of commerce, government, or education, your voice is crucial.
Paul, a Pharisee among Jews and a Roman citizen, was equipped to engage with many cultures, effectively becoming a spiritual ambassador in foreign lands. His background did not hinder him; rather, it empowered him. As modern-day believers, our varied backgrounds are not barriers but bridges. Like Paul, we are equipped to share the gospel across cultures and differences, turning the unknown into the known.
Prayer - Heavenly Father, grant us the courage and wisdom of Paul to speak Your truth into the hearts of all, across every divide of culture and language. May we embrace our unique identities as tools in Your service, to proclaim Your love far and wide. Equip us, Lord, to be ambassadors of Your eternal kingdom, for Your glory. Amen.
