TD Jakes (February 27, 2025) Daily Devotional: Triumph Over Adversity.
Bible Quote: "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." - Isaiah 40:31
In the vast expanse of our lives, we often find ourselves at the mercy of forces seemingly beyond our control. Just as the earth's centrifugal force and gravitational pull guide the waters, our paths too seem predetermined by the circumstances we're born into and the trials we face. But I stand before you today to remind you, my dear brothers and sisters, that there is One who has the power to alter the very laws of nature for your deliverance.
Reflect upon the moment when Jesus was baptized in the Jordan by John the Baptist, symbolizing the washing away of our sins into the sea of forgetfulness, never to resurface in this life or the next. This act was not just a demonstration of divine love but also a powerful declaration that our past does not define our future. Jesus' immersion in the waters of the Jordan was a testament that our old selves are as lifeless as the Dead Sea, where nothing can grow, signifying the total eradication of our transgressions, our pains, and our burdens.
But let us not forget, my friends, that the journey doesn't end at the river. Just as Jesus was led into the wilderness post baptism, so are we often directed into the deserts of our lives. These are not places of punishment, but rather sanctuaries of preparation. The wilderness is where we learn to rely not on our might but on the strength that God provides. It is where we learn that, even when the terrain is against us, when the currents of life pull us towards desolation, our God has the authority to "break the flow."
Consider Joshua, who stood before the Jordan, faced with an insurmountable barrier to the Promised Land. It wasn't Joshua's combat skills that parted the waters but his faith in God's command. Like Joshua, we must recognize that our battles are not won by the sword but by our submission to divine guidance.
And so, I urge you, in the face of illness, in the grip of uncertainty, when faced with the specters of your past misdeeds, remember that you serve a God who can "break the flow." No medical diagnosis, no financial crisis, no shadow of sin is too great for His intervention. You may be standing on the brink of what seems like your Red Sea, but God is poised to make a way where there seems to be no way.
Final Prayer: Heavenly Father, we stand before You today as witnesses to Your unending grace and power. We acknowledge our weaknesses, our fears, and our doubts, yet we rejoice in the knowledge that You are greater than all of them. Lord, as You broke the laws of nature to save Your children, we humbly ask You to intervene in our lives today. Break the flow of any force that seeks to pull us away from Your purpose. Lead us through our wilderness and guide us into the fullness of Your promises. We commit our lives into Your hands, trusting in Your eternal love and mercy. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
