Holiness - The Bible Project. In this video, we explore the paradox that God’s holiness presents to human beings. God is the unique and set-apart Creator of all reality and the author of all goodness. However, that goodness can become dangerous to humans who are mortal and morally corrupt. Ultimately, this paradox is resolved by Jesus, who embodies God’s holiness that comes to heal His creation.
What is Holiness? March 28, 2018 by Terri Copeland Pearsons. What is holiness? Can you define it? Often, believers define holiness as perfection. In their minds, they believe it stands to reason that if someone is holy it means they have risen above earthly pursuits, carnal desires and anything else that distracts them from God. But the Word of God talks about holiness differently? Romans 8:3 says, “The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin's control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins” (NLT). Mankind was unable to keep the law and attain holiness in our own strength, so our frailty demanded a perfect sacrifice. It demanded Jesus. His blood makes it possible for us to live without the penalty for sin and to live in THE BLESSING. Ephesians 1:3-4 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love” (KJV). Holiness comes because you are “in Christ.” The definition of holiness is “without fault, pure, consecrated and set apart.” You—and every other believer—are incapable of achieving holiness on your own. It is only by the blood of Jesus, by being “in Christ” that holiness is possible. When you set your life apart to God, you are practicing holiness. Does that mean you’re perfect in all your ways? No, it means you are doing your best every day to order your conduct according to the Word of God and the promptings of the Spirit. Holiness is the habit of being one mind with God, turning away from the ways of the world and living instead in agreement with Him. Holiness doesn’t happen to anyone by accident. But it requires a decision of the will. So, avoid living in condemnation that you are not holy enough. Instead, make a decision that your life will be set apart to God. When you do, the Lord will lead you in a life of holiness, and His power will begin to change you from the inside out.
