Daily Devotional (January-05-2023) ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR SIN.
Scripture Reference: 1 John 1:8-10 - “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
Sometimes, we find ourselves or other Christians unwilling to accept we have sinned. Amazingly, some take this “I have not sinned” “confidence” to God in prayer. The Bible says, if only we can acknowledge (confess) our sin, if we can accept our wrongs then we can now enjoy God's ever ready faithfulness and freedom from sin. Do you feel you have no sin? Are you sure? How does God see you?
God’s word is telling us that if we say (to ourselves or to others) that we have no sin (or have not sinned), we would be doing two things:
1. We would be deceiving ourselves, and showing the truth is not in us. Just by that posture (publicly or privately), we would be showing how deceived we are, no matter how nice and polished we look. We would be dignified and deceived.
2. We make God a liar, and His word has no place in us. This is a very serious state to be in. To make God a liar? You should not be in this state. You should also not make your heart or life a place where God’s word cannot stay or work.
Some also have a posture of admitting their sin in their words and prayers that are heard, only because it makes them sound, feel or look humble, while in reality they feel holy or holier than others. Deceived.
Are you saying you have no sin? Are you sure? From the above, it is better, wiser and safer to have a posture that genuinely accepts you are wrong, and receive God's forgiveness. My dear, God doesn't want you to continue to live in fear, torment, defeat, and sin. Receive forgiveness and move on to doing great things for Jesus.
